Space Mission Project: Design of a constellation of satellites for the study of atmospheric phenomena (Atmospheric Tides)

Project Description:

  1. Bibliographic Study: We initiated the project by conducting an extensive bibliographic study to gain a comprehensive understanding of Atmospheric Tides and relevant scientific knowledge.

  2. Specification Definition: Collaborating closely with our scientific tutor, we established precise project specifications, ensuring alignment with the mission's scientific objectives.

  3. Pre-Project Tools: Leveraging established pre-project tools within the space sector, such as VTS and IDM CIC , we laid the foundation for our mission.

  4. Calculation and Simulation Tools: To enhance precision, we employed computational tools including Scilab, Celestlab, and SIMU CIC for advanced calculations and simulations.

  5. Java Programming with Orekit: We endeavored to develop a Java program utilizing the Orekit library (named OreSat). Although we encountered challenges, our efforts were dedicated to calculating essential mission characteristics like revisit time and sensor viewing angles.

  6. Mission Design: Using VTS, we meticulously designed the mission, considering critical phases from launch to end-of-life.

  7. Life Phase Analysis: We conducted a thorough analysis of the various mission life phases, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of launch, installation, utilization, and mission completion.

  8. Team Management: Employing collaborative work tools such as Instagantt, Asana, and Slack, we efficiently managed our team and established working groups to optimize project workflow.

  9. Digital Authoring Tools: We utilized digital authoring tools to produce clear and accessible project documentation, facilitating communication and knowledge dissemination.

In 2022, as a team of eight engineers from Estaca, we embarked on a space mission project commissioned by LATMOS. My role as Project Manager led our collective efforts in designing a constellation of satellites dedicated to studying atmospheric phenomena, specifically Atmospheric Tides.
